
Before your rotation
We’re excited for you to start your rotation!
There are a couple things that need to be completed or reviewed before you arrive.
- Please complete a Pre-Rotation Assessment to better guide our teaching.
- Review the appropriate rotation guide (Inpatient: resident/fellow, Outpatient: resident/fellow or medical student)
- If you are a pharmacy learner, please refer to the Pharmacy Learner Portal for details regarding your rotation.
- If you are a neurology resident, please refer to the Neurology Learner Portal for details regarding your rotation.
- To get the most out of your rotation, here are some suggested readings:
- Chapter 1 in Demystifying Opioid Conversion Calculations, 2nd edition by Dr. McPherson

During your rotation
Please complete the following during the rotation to help enhance your learning.
Complete the following Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) modules (Use your cedars email to set up a free account when prompted)
- Clarifying Goals of Care
- Constipation in Patients with Serious Illness
- Nausea and Vomiting in Patients with Serious Illness
If you are doing an outpatient SCM elective, please complete the following online modules: (download and open pptx files on desktop/laptop computers for full animation features)
- Introduction to Outpatient Supportive/Palliative Care
- Outpatient Opioid Prescribing
- Introduction to Advance Directive vs POLST
If you are a medical student, please prepare a 10-15 minute presentation on a topic of your choice.
- Please submit your topic to Dr. Darrah for approval at the end of your second week.
- You will present it during the last week of the rotation.
