Review the following before your first day on service:
- Please complete a Pre-Rotation Assessment to better guide our teaching
- Review the Supportive Care Medicine rotation guide
- Please read the following before day 1:
- Chapter 1 in Neuropalliative Care, 1st Edition by Creutzfeldt et al
- Chapter 1 in Demystifying Opioid Conversion Calculations, 2nd Edition by Dr. McPherson
- Top 10 things Palliative Care Clinicians Wished Everyone Knew About Palliative Care by Strand et al
- Need for Palliative Care for Neurological Diseases by Provinciali et al
- You will be expected to read the following by the end of your rotation:
- Neurologists as Primary Palliative Care Providers by Creutzfeldt et al
- Estimating and Communicating Prognosis in Advanced Neurologic Disease by Holloway et al
- Clinical Guidance in Neuropalliative Care: An AAN Position Statement by Taylor et al
- Dr. Besbris will recommend additional reading based on your subspecialty of interest!

- Please note: you will be expected to provide a brief presentation at the end of your rotation, on the neuropalliative topic of your choosing.
- Don’t forget to complete the post-rotation assessment and feedback before you leave!

Your rotation attending will be Dr. Jessica Besbris. She is faculty in both the Supportive Care Medicine and Neurology Departments, and is boarded in neurology and hospice and palliative medicine. The office is on the second floor of the east medical tower building (across from the main hospital), suite 245E. You can either take the elevators down to 2 or take the stairwell across from the Sandwich Shop (the one right next to coffee bean) down one floor. You should already have badge access to the office.
